Thinkers & Philosophers

Thinkers leave a strange kind of fame. We know their ideas better than their lives, and sometimes we know them only through what other people wrote down.

Socrates wrote nothing at all. He charged no fees, and he walked around Athens asking questions nobody could answer. Everything we know about him comes from other people. His city put him on trial and sentenced him to death. His friends arranged an escape, and he refused it.

That’s the story we tell: not a summary of a philosophy, but the life of a man who chose to die rather than stop asking questions, and the city that decided it couldn’t live with him.

Like every film on the channel, it comes with a written dispatch listing the sources, so you can see where each part of the story comes from and read further.
